Overview:


The produce market is focused on the challenging melon transition, with tight supplies for honeydews and lemons, steady strawberries, increasing blueberry volume, and blackberries and raspberries gradually improving.

 

Weather:


Warm summer weather continues across Florida, California, Arizona, and Mexico, with isolated showers, extreme heat in Arizona, and scattered thunderstorms in Central Mexico.

 

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY

 

Fruits

 

  • Avocados: Market is steady with good California and Mexican supply; Colombian supply remains tight.
  • Pineapples (Escalated): Supply is tight as Mexican volumes decline; larger sizes should improve by late July, while crownless and organic remain limited.
  • Grapes: Supplies are improving as the San Joaquin Valley season begins.
  • Bananas: Stable supply with strong demand and very good quality.
  • Apples & Pears: Apple market is steady; pear season is ending with inventories expected to bridge to the new crop.
  • Berries: Markets remain mixed to tight, with limited blueberries and elevated blackberry and raspberry prices as Mexican production declines.

 

California Citrus

 

  • Lemons (Escalated): Supplies remain tight with strong demand; import volumes are expected to improve availability in July.
  • Oranges (Escalated): Tight supplies and strong demand, with Valencia production peaking and smaller fruit remaining limited.
  • Limes: Good supply and quality with a steady-to-lower market; smaller sizes are most available.
  • Stone Fruit: California production is nearing full volume, while Washington cherry season will begin winding down.

 

California Lettuce

 

  • Lettuce supplies continue to improve, easing markets, with generally good quality expected through July.

 

Eastern & Western Vegetables

 

  • Bell Peppers (Escalated): Markets remain elevated as Eastern rain tightens supply and shifts demand west.
  • Eggplant: Eastern supplies are plentiful with good quality, while California prices remain higher.
  • Slicer Cucumbers: Market is stable but Eastern supplies will tighten as regional seasons end.
  • Squash: Good supplies are available from multiple growing regions.
  • English Cucumbers: Yields remain below normal, though supplies are gradually improving.
  • Green Beans: Western markets are strengthening, while Eastern supplies remain very tight with higher prices.

 

Melons

 

  • Cantaloupe (Escalated): Limited domestic supply continues during the California production transition.
  • Honeydew (Escalated): Supplies remain tight following the end of offshore and Mexican production.
  • Watermelon (Escalated): Limited imports and weather-related harvest delays continue to support higher prices.

 

Mixed Vegetables

 

  • Escalated: Artichokes, asparagus, broccolini, fennel, onions, and select specialty items remain in tight supply with elevated pricing.
  • Improving Supply: Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, garlic, kale, mushrooms, parsley, Napa cabbage, and spring mix have good availability.
  • Watchlist: Green onions, red cabbage, spinach, and snow/snap peas remain tight or limited.
  • Steady Markets: Cabbage, ginger, Brussels sprouts, corn, cilantro, and rapini continue to see stable demand with varying supply levels.

 

Onions

 

  • Escalated: Summer production is transitioning from Texas and Georgia to California and New Mexico, with freight costs continuing to influence the market.

 

Potatoes

 

  • Large potatoes remain tighter due to lower yields, while Washington quality is strong and yellow and sweet potatoes remain limited.

 

Tomatoes

 

  • Overall tomato supplies are improving as Eastern production expands, with strong California quality and grape tomatoes remaining the tightest category.
